On this day, Peraton completes the acquisition of Perspecta. Perspecta is 'no more.'
On Saturday, June 12, 2021, Arlyn, Amber and I drove up to Dunsmuir. The plan was to stay one night at the Dunsmuir Inn & Suites.
The next day, Arlyn and Amber attended Kati's bridal shower. I attended but only to fly the drone before the party. After getting some drone footage, Jeff, Larry and I went to Mt. Shasta to grab lunch at the Mexican restaurant. After lunch, we returned to the party to pickup our spouses.
Back on March 8, 2021, I made reservations to stay at the McCloud RV Resort in one of their deluxe cabins. Jim and Vine Smith as well as Jeff and Carrie Ogden were planning to bring their trailors along and make a weekend of it.
On Wednesday afternoon, June 30, 2021, the Salt Fire erupted in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest near the Gilman Road area near the Salt Creek exit. The path of the fire was along Interstate 5 and heading north towards Dunsmuir. Because of the quickness and direction of the fire, Jeff cancelled his reservation to the McCloud RV Resort and was able to get a full refund. Following in his footsteps, I did the same. I was able to get full refund.
Jim and Vine Smith kept their reservations and were determined to make a go of it. On Thursday, July 1st, they made the drive to McCloud. They reported heavy smoke and fire damage. However, they were able to arrive safely at the RV resort.
I tried to recover the reservation that I cancelled at the RV resort. I was unable as it was snatched up by other vacationers. I then turned to Airbnb as a possible alternative. I was able to secure a residence through Airbnb located in Mt. Shasta. This was good enough. On Saturday, July 3, 2021, Arlyn, Amber and I packed up the car and headed for Mt. Shasta.
Once we got settled into the Airbnb, we drove to McCloud to meet up with Jim and Vine Smith. We enjoyed a great barbeque dinner.
On Sunday, July 4th, after preparing ourselves for the day, we headed back to McCloud. We visited McCloud's main street and ventured over to the McCloud Hotel. We met with the current owner and toured the property.
Later that day, Jeff and Carrie joined us at the RV resort. We enjoyed steaks, hamburgers and pina coladas.
On Monday, July 5th, Arlyn, Amber and I drove to Sacramento, CA.
Early in 2021, Jeff indicated that there was to be an Ogden/Harris family reunion in July 2021. Family members from Arkansas and Texas would travel to Kalama, WA, to the home of Bill and Carol Dunn. Jeff wanted to go, but was unsure if Randi, his daughter, would be going. For me, I thought it would be a good excuse to take a week off and hit the road with Arlyn and Amber.
On Friday, July 23, 2021, the three of us piled into the Terrain to make the trek to Kalama. This first day was a short day of driving since I had to work a full day. We drove the 209 miles to Dunsmuir, CA. We stayed the night at the Travelodge by Wyndham Dunsmuir. Later that evening, we dined with Jeff, Carrie and Miranda at the local Mexican restaurant. On Saturday, after having breakfast at Penny's Diner, we packed up and started the drive to Kalama. Jeff and Randi left earlier and were about 90 minutes ahead of us the whole day. The drive took us through Oregon and into Washington. This resulted in a drive of about 399 miles. It was supposed to take a little more than six hours, but with traffic stacking up in Portland, the drive took longer. We found our Airbnb in the town of Woodland, WA. This place was a great find and the price was incredible.
After settling in at the Airbnb, we met up with other family members at one of the bars in Kalama. We stayed for a little while and then headed up to the Dunn home where the rest of the family were located.
On Sunday, July 25th, some of us went to the Port of Kalama to enjoy the sunny skies. There was this very odd hotel located near the park named the McMenammins Kalama Harbor Lodge. It has secret rooms and very unique decor throughout.
On Monday, July 26th, Arlyn and I planned to use this day to look at RVs in the area. In the meantime, Amber remained with family members and drove to the Mount St. Helens volcano.
On Tuesday, July 27th, we loaded up three cars and drove to Long Beach, WA. We had lunch at teh Cataways Seafood Grille. After having lunch, we ventured to the beach to watch the waves roll in under the heavy, fog.
On Wednesday, July 28th, 2021, we started home early in the day. This was to be the longest driving day of the trip because we were going all the way home. This resulted in 607 miles and took over nine hours. We made it home around 7:00 PM.
