USDA - Food Safety and Inspection Service October 2015 - January 2016
Project Overview: The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, or USDA FSIS, is a federal government agency that needed a Business Intelligence road map to utilize the Teradata appliance that they purchased several years ago. This engagement reviewed older USDA FSIS business requirements to ensure they were still valid, identifying any gaps or changes. It also included a comprehensive review of the Teradata appliance they purchased with current capabilities and options. Also requested was comprehensive review of all identified sources including data profiling. The result of this engagement produced a Business Intelligence road map with options. This road map would be used by USDA FSIS to implement a Business Intelligence solution that meet current business needs and address any areas that have been identified as issues or risks.
Note: This engagement required that all project personnel must complete and pass the Personal Identity Verification, or PIV, process. This process is akin to the DoD security process.

Time Warner Cable September 2015 - October 2015
Project Overview: Time Warner Cable needed a price to migrate from its IBM/Netezza TwinFin to a Teradata appliance. This migration included the replication of databases and their respective objects and the scripts used to populate and maintain these databases. An assessment was required to examine the Netezza database system to determine the amount of effort required. This enabled the client to properly plan their tactical move from the aging Netezza system.

After the successful completion of the assessment, the Teradata team required additional assistance with the conversion of Netezza scripts to Teradata. All references to Netezza were replaced with appropriate Teradata scripts, commands and tools. This included the introduction of BTEQ and TPT into existing Time Warner Cable scripts.

Project Overview: Hertz Car Rental's Treasury team issues asset-backed securities based on the vehicle in its' fleet. To comply with regulations, the value of the vehicles had to be maintained on a daily basis to ensure accurate and verifiable data. By maintaining the accurate valuation of its fleet, Hertz is able to maintain the integrity of their bonds to its investors and regulators. Assistance was needed to provide additional help with day to day operations and to assist with reporting needs.

Project Overview: Teradata/Claraview and Frontier Communications' were about to enter into an agreement to allow Teradata and Claraview to provide resources and consulting expertise to Frontier Communications. The goal of this assessment was to gain a better understanding of the scope of work needed and the solutions required to meet Frontier Communications' requirements.

T-Mobile December 2012 - September 2013
Project Overview: Provide services as functional analyst.
In addition to the functional analyst role, also assisted with a sales pursuit with T-Mobile when T-Mobile issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a metadata solution. My involvement with this effort ensured that Teradata understood T-Mobile request and provide T-Mobile with a solution that met T-Mobile's needs.
Suggested, coordinated and assisted with organizing of an off-site Teradata/Claraview planning meeting to develop and prioritize a strategic plan to address T-Mobile's tactical and strategic needs. The meeting's focus was to take the observations and suggestions of Teradata/Claraview resources at T-Mobile and to build a plan with tangible solutions and product offerings. This resulted in a clear and concise plan for Teradata and Claraview to target current and future T-Mobile needs.

CareSource August 2012 - November 2012
Project Overview: CareSource utilized the SAS statistical application to perform ETL-like processing and OLAP reporting. CareSource relied on local resources to develop and maintain the SAS system. The departure of those SAS resources has crippled CareSource's ability to maintain the system. CareSource developed a plan to remove their reliance on SAS. This included the procurement of Teradata hardware and the incorporation of BI best practices. CareSource wished to retire their SAS system by migrating their BI solution to Teradata. This included sourcing data from Facets and CareAdvance along with various other smaller source systems.

Project Overview: After purchasing a Teradata appliance, Groupon required a migration from their Vertica cloud solution to Teradata to increase performance and lower costs.

Scope documentation was integrated into work package to determine the actual cost to execute the project. Also began the establishment of the ADC (Manila) processes to use when the project began.

Beam Global, Inc. November 2010 - June 2011
Project Overview: Beam Inc owns and produces Jim Beam Bourbon whiskey along with a wide variety of other liqueurs and spirits. Beam Inc utilized Essbase version 7.11 (no longer supported by Oracle) to maintain operational data. Beam Inc also received and analyzed Aperity data to determine store shelf inventory levels over time. Beam Inc could not overcome the challenges of integrating disparate source systems to perform accurate reporting and analysis.
The purchase of additional brands (i.e. Skinnygirl Cocktails) presented Beam Inc with additional challenges. The Beam Inc. leadership requirement to receive immediate accurate feedback on the status of a new brand or product could not be met by the current reporting environment. Incorrect information was routinely delivered to Beam Inc leadership, highlighting Beam Inc.'s inability to integrate and focus on new brands.

Data modeling assignment for an existing claims processing data warehouse. Blue Shield of California purchased a new source system. This required the reengineering of an existing Operation Data Store (ODS) to integrate the new source.

With the purchase of three new virtual Solaris ETL servers, Owens-Illinois required the installation of IBM's InfoSphere 8.1 software package.
TennCare August 2009 - September 2009
Acted as Business Lead during an Business Intelligence assessment. Participated and lead interviews with over 42 TennCare and EDS employees to determine the current state of TennCare's Business Intelligence environment. Also collected BI requirements and determined if the current TennCare Business Intelligence environment is meeting those requirements. Documented all findings with a road map and high-level project plan to bring TennCare's Business Intelligence environment in line with their requirements.
Service Alberta April 2007 - March 2009
Worked as an ETL lead on the Service Alberta account. The vehicle registration and licensing source system was stored in a Adabas system. The ETL development team uses Informatica PowerCenter and PowerExchange to perform ETL activities. The account is located in Edmonton, Alberta and required extensive international travel.

While assigned to work in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the government agency, known as Service Alberta, requested an assessment to determine if a data Warehouse solution would address their reporting needs. After performing an analysis of their requirements, it was determined that a data warehouse would indeed address their requirements for reporting on the motor vehicle (MOVES) system. The resulting report lead to the sale of a data warehousing implementation sale.
Sara Lee June 2006 - January 2007
Worked as a project lead on a data warehouse solution at Sara Lee in Downer's Grove, IL. The resulting data warehouse allowed Sara Lee to monitor the effectiveness of third-party carriers and truckers in the United States. Responsible for an ETL team and a reporting team. Also in charge of managing the Sara Lee management team. The source system was Oracle and the ETL tool used was IBM DataStage.
Kable News Company April 2005 - June 2006
Worked as an ETL lead on the Kable News Company data warehouse. Was responsible for interfacing with the client and the collection of business rules concerning the subscribers. These rules were then translated into ETL specifications for a team of three ETL developers. This engagement was located in Mount Morris, IL and required extensive travel. The source system was Adabas and the data warehouse used SQL Server 2005.

In charge of collecting, analyzing, and publishing of metadata for the Service Delivery portion of the project. During this time, a conduit was built to extract metadata from ERwin V4.0 XML to the Metatory Microsoft Access database. This was accomplished by using Microsoft Visual Basic V6.0.

Designed, developed, delivered and supported a metadata management application called Metatory. Metatory was a full-featured desktop application capable of importing metadata from various sources including Excel, CA Erwin, and CoolGen. It was also capable of exporting metadata to Business Object universes and static HTML websites.
Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems March 1997 - April 1998
JJHCS needed a data warehouse for Johnson & Johnson sales and marketing teams that would calculate the number of J&J products that are consumed by health providers. This data warehouse would compare that value with the actual number of products used. This would provide a ratio of Johnson & Johnson's market share at a provider level.
As a part of this new JJHCS service to its clients, JJHCS needed to determine the best OLAP tool to deploy that would meet the project's requirements. I reviewed project requirements and criteria, interviewed end users and JJHCS resources, performed evaluations of OLAP tools and researched current 3rd-party reviews. I met this task's requirement by providing our OLAP recommendation.
Pharmaceutical Industry Group (EDS Internal) 1994 - 1996
Acted as technical lead on project. Designed, constructed and implemented a Lipid/Diabetes Registry Application using Microsoft Access V2.0. This client-server application is used by Bristol Meyers-Squibb in the Great Lakes Region. It is used to track cardio-vascular patients through their treatment during a Phase IV trial. The database stores patient data, such as dietary, smoking and treatment data. Several other support applications were also developed to support the Lipid/Diabetes Registry. This included an Export and Import Process as well as a Compact and Repair Utility.

Upon completion of the CHAMP V5.0 rewrite, Rodney joined the Team EPIC project. Rodney designed, constructed, tested , and implemented modifications to the Legent's ENDEVOR product that allowed the Team EPIC pilot program to continue. Without this activity, the project would have suffered a major delay.

While remaining with the Program Products, Rodney assumed the role of Team Leader over the CHAMP product. During this time, he supervised a major restructuring of the product which included a complete rewrite of the VSAM I/O subsystem utilizing MVS control blocks using Assembler.

After graduating from the EDS SED Phase II training, Rodney joined the EPIC project as an SED Phase III. During his stay with the EPIC group, he served as the team's expert on the Application Development Workstation (IEW and ADW). He had the responsibility for the integrity of the data model and for the design of an interface between ADW and BookMaster (documentation software). He also served as the liaison between the Plano and Denver SE Center teams. During his tenure here, Rodney became an SE by graduating from the SED program.

While with this group, Rodney played a strong role in the gathering and analysis of responses to an IPSD (Information Processing Services Division) Customer Satisfaction Survey in addition to supporting numerous other projects. Rodney also developed his own MS-DOS menuing system and prototyped various Mandelbrot set equations to generate graphical representation of fractals.

From 1981 to 1985, Rodney trained and worked as a missile analyst technician on the AGM-69A (SRAM) on B-52Gs. During this time, he received the Good Conduct Medal and Commendation Medal for outstanding work. Rodney was assigned to the 42nd Bomb Wing at Loring AFB, Maine. Rodney was honorably discharged from active duty in August 1985 with a rank of E-4. This career field required that Rodney hold a Top Secret clearance from the military.
